E39 528iSE Dash problems

Hi all,

I'm posting this on behalf of my Dad who today has reported that he has lost a lot of the functions on his '97 528iSE dash. He reports that the fuel gauge isn't registering, he's lost the trip computer functions and his indicators have gone amongst other things. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

My first thoughts are an ECU module somewhere is faulty, but I've heard that E39s suffer from faulty ignition switches. Could this result in the above symptoms?

They are prone to electrical faults, could be ignition switch. When the ABS module plays up or the battery is knackered all sorts of electrical weirdness occurs. Ask me how I know
