Hi all. Went to Nurburgring last year and stayed in the Dorint (fantastic hotel!), but it's full when we're going this year.

Can anyone recommend somewhere else? Need to be within walking distance of the pubs/restaurants for the evenings too, so nothing in the middle of the forest please!

Thanks in advance!

I like the am Tiergarten and stay there always. The Pistenklause restaurant is downstairs and the are quite a few places within a walk.

I used to stay up in the village but got bored of just going for steak on a stone so we stay down in adenau now at eddys place just on the bridge. You can hear the track from the balcony and there's more to do in the village than in nurburg

I will probably get a thrashing for suggesting this, but the Lindner really is a good hotel..

If you haggle they will often do a deal on the price, too smile

Hotel is lovely. Some people don't like the whole new development there as it detracts from what the place was.

Lidner are 50%(?) partners in NAG (the people that operate the Ring) and there is talk they are using their enormity and marketing advantages that gives them to edge out some smaller local hotels and restaurants.

The market will choose.

Thanks guys. Is Nurburg itself a quiet place? i.e. not much to do on the night?

Is Adenau a better option then?

Nurburg is quiet, couple of restaurants and bars which are nice. Adenau is just bigger so has more choice. Lindner is a nice, modern hotel but it is a bit lacking in atmosphere at night.

I would like to recommend the Hotel Agnesenhof in Barweiler. This is an old Farm converted to a very cosy hotel with a fine restaurant as well. They just offer 15 rooms.... It definitely is "the" most personal way to stay in the Eifel moutains.

Have been in the Lindner last week-it definitely is a modern business hotel.... Fine rooms, food is ok but a little bit pricey.

Yes, the "market" will choose, although the market is sometimes distorted by players with disproportionate power. When that happens on a large scale, the result is usually an enquiry and often serious formal sanctions. When it happens on a smaller scale, the authorities cannot justify the effort required for an enquiry, so the distortion continues until the terminal stage.

I'd have to say that it is more than "talk" that that is happening. One can welcome it or abjure it, but it is happening. Just look at something as undeniable as the much-despised "Ringcard". Its primary purpose is to distort the market!

Different people will have different tastes, and fair enough. I don't know how many nights I've stayed in hotels in Nurburg area, but it's multiple hundreds, and across numerous different hostelries. I almost cannot conceive of circumstances in which I would choose to stay in a Lindner hotel. If I had ongoing business in Nurburg but the nearest non-Lindner room I could get were an hour away in Spa or Koblenz, I'd stay in Spa or Koblenz.

Btw, some local hotels that were just barely breaking even last year have lowered their rates this year in the hope of getting back some of the trade that Lindner took from them.

I'll second that. Stayed there loads of times and am back there early next month. Very good value and very good service. Fantastic food, they chuck the best bbq ever and if you want to go to Adenau for the eve they have a mini bus to run you down in.

Can also recommend the Sonnenhof in Adenau, it's a ten min walk into town but is in a lovely rural spot.
