Since buying the rangie the cruise control hasn't worked, I think it may be the dash switch or the relay as the light on the button doesn't light up. So which should I change first or am I missing something else.

check the vacuum pipe in engine bay between eas box and bulkhead. mine was split therefore no vacuum

That is the usual suspect (and a cheap fix) but the switch light still comes on if the vacuum pipe has failed? - No light in the OPs case, so may be a different issue?

Yep, I would say deffo a power fault somewhere and nothing to do with the vacuum side of things.
