Hi folks
We are planning on spending a couple of nights in N Wales just before Easter and are looking for some advice.
I was thinking Conwy or Caernarvon and am after a hotel c £100 per night for a double, B&B. MUST have safe parking and be walkable for pubs/curry house/restaurants etc.
Was also thinking of doing the new scenic railway that has been completed up there as well (25 miles long, steam, takes in Beddgelert etc and supurb views around the area). Anyone done this yet?
Any suggestions greatly appreciated

We just our mini honeymoon (3 nights without the littleone - bliss) at the Castle Hotel in Conwy. Its a lovely old place and the food is absolutely wonderful, they have a secure car park out back.
Nice one Mike...We have stayed at that one before and it was good from memory. Was hoping to keep it closer to £100 per night though tbh...
cheers again

evo favourite: Groes Inn
I've not stayed there but the pub part and the food are very good. Not sure about parking though. They also own this place in Conwy which looks great, although parking may be tricky in the centre of the town http://www.groesinn.com/fourteen.htm
Just got back from there - spent two nights in Seiont Manor Hotel which is near Llanrug. Was ok, but not spectacular (a bit far for 'walk to the pub' but the parking was very secure). Evil speedbumps getting in though.
Be careful with the railways - there are two. One just does an out and back which isn't spectacular (Ffestiniog railway I think), whereas the Welsh Highland is the one we should have gone for.

I had a wonder round Caernarfon a couple of years ago. It's okay, but you won't spend much time there as there's little to do.
There isn;t anywhere with ' a lot to do' in that regards. Most are small villages, or towns. Seriously, go to Betsw-y-Coed, and you can have some lovely drives to Conwy etc. You're in the midst of Snowdonia, so lovely hikes, etc as well.Yeh...the idea is to stay somewhere and use that as a base. We are only there for 2 nights so I think the plan would be to probably
- Have a nice meandering drive up on the first day
- Overnight - few beers and a pub meal/curry
- Visit the Castle and then do something else (maybe the highland railway) or vice versa
- Overnight - few beers and a pub meal/curry (depending om night 1 !)
- Meandering drive back
In that regards Caernarvon only needs to be a safe place to have a wander and have a choice of beering holes etc

Avoid Rhyl, and Prestatyn, as they are what I envisage hell to be like.
Oh come on, no visit to North Wales is complete without a day at Rhyl Sun Centre.

The Groes is a really good pub, used to eat there alot when I lived in North wales. They always did amazing duck. They also own this place in Conwy which looks great, although parking may be tricky in the centre of the town http://www.groesinn.com/fourteen.htm
Bodysgallen is a really nice hotel, it's fairly pricey though. http://www.bodysgallen.com/
