Hey guys , first PH post!

Well after a couple of years owning an old modded Suzuki Samurai as a second fun car, I finally got fed up with the real lack of off-roading opportunities in my area and the terrible road manners and mpg and sold up. I'd always had my eye caught by MX5s and my dad has always had a thing for little Elan-type sports cars and even looked into an MX5 many years ago. Anyway, I got back what I paid for the jeep, had a little bonus at work, some advanced birthday money etc and now I'm the grinning owner of a '94 UK spec 1.8iS in classic red with a really nice Mk 2 hardtop.

Haven't had the absolute smoothest of starts to ownership, there's a few things I didn't spot when buying. I took it over to Freelance Mazda as it is just down the road from me and Mark had a good look over it. Urgently needs a clutch slave cylinder, it's pissing out clutch fluid. Also someone's done a bit of a bodge on the cooling system and used inferior quality piping almost everywhere. There's also a bit of an oil weep from the front and the front pads are on the wear markers. It also has four mismatched tyres which is a big no-no for me!

But there is good news! It has had all new sills and radiator and soft-top and is excellent rust-wise which is the main thing. It also has full Mazda service history for the first 7-8 years of life, and a lot of history after that. I believe it was stood up as a project car for a couple of years too.

Can't wait to get these few niggles ironed out, gonna give it a full polish as the red is a little dull in places, especially the rear end. I have to say all my hopes an expectations of the drive have been more than met. It is an absolute pleasure to drive - you can really give it some stick and yet not actually be doing silly licence risking speeds. Perfect!

oh, and my main drive is an 06 fabia VRS so I basically have cars at opposite ends of the spectrum now, a torquey TD and a revvy NA! Just need to drive each accordingly!

Will post pics when it's cleaned - maybe it's had a PH previous owner?

Welcome! Tip - Sell the hardtop and that will pay for a new set of tyres and a service... far more useful!

I know! I am very tempted to do this as I have a lock-up for the car and it isn't a daily drive. But I really like the hardtop and how the car looks with it, and it will keep its value if/when I sell her, plus I do have the space to keep it stored. But a few hundred quid would be very useful at the moment! Hmm decisions...

Welcome to PH.

Strangely enough, I currently have a modded Samurai, up for sale as I pick up a 1.6 Eunos tomorrow!

Great minds think alike eh?

Haha, yep! The Samurai's are fantastic off-road but hopeless on - the MX5 is light years better for soft-top fun. Hope yours is a good 'un!
