Right I fly Heathrow to Sofia about 3 times a year and it ranges from £150 rtn pp to £260 pp (if booked in advance).

Now I booked up for this summer in Dec 2010 and paid c£175 pp.
Looking at any time this has now increased to £245 (each EACH WAY).

Checking other destinations they also seem notably higher.

Whats going on?

Currently two flights cost £1k when they used to be under £300. I mean at those prices you could get All Inc & accomodation thrown in. Am I missing something here...

I really can't figure out why anybody would want to fly with BA at the moment with all of the strike action... confused

Book a short break through one of the many operators ... if you dont need the hotel then just dont turn up at it.

I've done this a few times to save on inflated prices

Because some of the routes are either BA or Ryanair and to be honest I'd rather walk than fly with the latter!!!

costs increasing really

BA has been hit quite badly in the last few years which has led to the whole BA = avoid thinking.

could be the flights are getting booked up? prices are to some extent demand based as I understand it and your earlier price was when the plane still appeared empty...

I just did a quick check on my regular route (LHR-Kiev) and for flights several weeks/months away the round trip is less than £250, but change the dates to the next couple of weeks and the price more than doubles!

To be honest that is a pretty good answer!

I have to go back 5 years maybe more since I didnt fly with them.
Srike action not impacted us at all.

T5 is lovely, flight times are always the best, you always land and fly out of the newest terminal where you go, destination airport is close, food & drinks (yes I tend to have beers usally 6-8 each way and the wife has wine) really is nothing in it plus the 23kg baggage allowence, the fact you can book your seats free, far newer lower miled aircraft, notably more legroom and (possibly percepton) chair width over budget lines.

Note notan employee or S/holder or any family working there.

So all of the above = hard not to.

With the strike action - last time 80% of fligts out of Heathrow went ahead without issue and 100% out of the others. I believe it was short hall which had the delays. If it happens again they will be at 90%.

yeah alot of the talk at work has been that the strikes will cancel possibly a few local flights but a large majority will carry on as normal. there's less enthusiasm for them now.

Fuel surcharge is only £24 on that route, just seems to be busy for some reason.

Always a good idea to clear your cookies after using ba.com as it seems to send the prices a bit loopy if you keep coming back and looking at the same route.

I'm getting bummed by BA too. And I've no choice but to let them have their way with me every week. Twice!

Not a nice feeling.

By getting bummed do you mean it's more expensive than you like or something else?

Something else. I'd rather not speak about it TBH.

All airlines are feeling the pinch at the moment - Flew out to Boston last year, with AA, and no matter when I wanted to fly, the price was about £500, this year it has gone up to over £750.
