One for any appliance experts in the P&P...

My AEG L10500VI washing machine has started making some pretty terminal rumbling noises on the spin cycle, along with the appearance of a few bits of white plastic in the wash.

It sounds like the bearings have gone, so I had a quick look online and can see it is £10 in parts and an hour or so labour. In theory an easy DIY job as long as the bearings can be driven off / on without too much hassle.

However, feeling sensible I called out the local repairman to do the job, he turned up, wiggled the drum around and stated that the "main bearing" had gone "at the back" and therefore it was a new machine required, and no repair could be done. I wasn't in to hear him say this, but that is what the other half reports.

I can find no mention of such an issue online, so is it the case that he just didn't fancy the job, or is he possibly right?

From my DIY with washing machines, the bearing is pretty easy to get at and repairable. Surely if you've found a replacement bearing then the knackered one can be fixed? I used these http://www.apart4u.co.uk when I needed to fix mine and they were really helpfull over the phone. They have a video on how to check your bearings too http://www.apart4u.co.uk/video-tutorials/washing-m...

Doesn't an AEG have a long warranty on it a la Miele?
