Headlamps

Currently changing my headlamps to comply with the continental traffic (to shine on the other side). For this I need to fit new reflectors and lenses.

Just took the wheel off and opened the access cover inside the wheel arch, but apparently I cannot do the job all from there... so I assume that I have to take the outer lamp covers off? Are these only hold in place with the three bolts I have seen inside or are the covers sikaflexed to the body as well.

IMO the reflectors can stay 'all' you need to do is change the lenses.
You'll find there are 4 x 'wing nut' fixings that hold the headlamp cowl in place, plus the dreaded silkaflex. With the wing nuts removed, slow even pressure on the cowl/studs will release the cowl/lens.

Somehow I hoped for a different answer though, as I was hoping I could do the job from the inner wheel arch.

The previous owner gave the car a front end respray (due to stone chips) without removing the lamp cowls, so the paint is sitting right on the gap between body and cowl.

I am sure I will need another respray when I try to pull them off.

If you scalpel through the paint you should be ok

Good idea, just ordered a set of scalpels to give it a try.

Parcel service stops already daily to deliver something for the Cerb, think they soon find the way to my house blindfolded.

Thx all for your support, scalpels worked wonders... and I thought I had sharp knifes.

Finally good that I took everything off completely, because the bolts that were bonded to the cowls already came loose. Guess the Sikaflex alone was holding it all together.

I also replaced the reflectors, lamps are twice as bright now!! Would recommend the change to everyone who thinks them lights are bad.
