Other than being a whimp why am I so scared of flying, even though I used to love it when I was younger? Anyone else get feelings of anxiety before take off and how can I get over this? I got a 10hr flight coming up and I don't want to feel on edge for the whole journey.

Scared myself mate, if you find a cure let me know.

On a side note I once went for a job at a local aerospace company and while walking around I got a feeling of security from seeing the level of precision parts were being made to. Then got to the back of the building and saw a bloke with a flatbed transit just flinging the parts onto the back of the van lolbiggrin Needless to say my fear soon returned.

I don't fly at all. A logical thought that has turned into a phobia!

What are you scared of?

A wing WON'T come off.

You WON'T just fall out of the sky.

You MAY suffer from dodgy airline food.

In this day and age I really don't know how anyone can be scared of flying.

Book yourself a half hour lesson in a Cessna. A big jet after that will feel like sitting in your lounge smile

hehe

I just to be like you, scared of every noise, the way the plane "falls" a little when it hits an air pocket.....I'm now resigned to my fate which is a much better state of mind. What will be will be - maybe you'll die in a massive fireball, chances are you won't though so why worry ?

Get some Acustraps. They work on acupressure points on your wrists to suppress the release of the stress hormone cortisol. My OH discovered them when trying to find a cure for travel sickness - she loves traveling but doesn't fly well. They have worked really well for her. I had hardly flown at all, having been on one just one holiday in my whole life that required air travel prior to September last year and I was lucky 'cause both flights on that occasion were very smooth and it was only about three hours each way. When the OH took me to America for my 36th birthday last September I ended up having a panic attack in the LHR departure lounge so we went into Boots and bought me some Acustraps and, wow, no problems at all, despite some pretty spectacular turbulence for a couple of hours as we flew over St Johns and Nova Scotia and the same on the return journey. I've been on two more overseas trips since (Spain and Germany) and have booked flights today for yet another trip (Cyprus) in June, and will probably head to America again for my Birthday this year. No worries!

You just couldn't resist, could you? biggrin

OP, go flying. Take an intro course and learn how to fly. It will make you a lot more comfortable.
