Dentists and pain relief experts - Help!
Discussion
Start of this week was having sensitivity to food and drink and was getting worse each day on my UR3 molar with a root canal.
Had to go home to my dentist (50miles) on Thursday and he said i need the root canal removed and put back in with a crown.
Friday morning I wake at 5am with massive pain all have is paracetamol taking two pills lasting 60 mins max pain relief while at work.
Finish work and race to a pharmacy to get something stronger come out with a mixture of Paracelamol with Codine & Ibuprofen currently i am taking this which offer pain relief but not enough time between taking each pill.
Seen a emergency dentist this morning who gave me Amoxicillin 500mg for infection.
So my question is what can i get/do to give me more pain relief i cant bear this much longer even after 2 days.
If people are thinking mtfu it feels like my tooth wants to explode with someone stabbing it at the same time and then when i bite down on my tooth when you have to eat its even worse i have just eaten soup since and the pain comes back even worse for couple minutes

ok, best thing i found on shlf by far is orajel. it comes in a little tube and you want the max strength. you may have to ask behind counter but it's non prescription. douse your mouth in it all around the area and prepare to not feel your tongue or gum for a while.
and you have my sympathies.

Clove oil is a miracle cure for tooth pain, you may remember the "Is it safe?" scene in the film 'Marathon Man'! Pain-killer wise, it's not safe to exceed the recommended dose of paracetamol too much, but with ibuprofen you can go more frequent if your stomach can stand the upset - my doctor once told me a healthy adult male can take double the dosage for a few days.
I can't speak for codeine though, so check with a pharmacist before upping codeine intake. And they're all incompatible with alcohol, as far as I know.
So what you end up with is alternating paracetamol and ibuprofen every 2 hours, and using clove oil for the hour in the middle. You have my full sympathy, best of luck!
