A 'TVR' numberplate for sale in the classifieds is being advertised with the hook line.....
'The only part of your TVR that will not break down'

But they do have a really cheap Bentley for only £2999...
got a sh*te No plate mind you, it's supposed to say RULER, but you have to put a white screw cover on the 6 to make it look like an 'e'.
I mean, why would you be that bothered for people to know you are a school teacher
or a very small plank of wood.

Prehaps your difference of opinion is something to do with your different levels of experience?
Ex-TVR dealer - dealt in 100s if not 1000s of new&used TVRs over the years (at least one new Tuscan was such a feckin disgrace that PW had to exchange it FOC, allegedly

If they're so unreliable what were they doing selling them to people then? I assume they are going to be offering everyone their money back?
I for one will make sure I never buy a TVR from them assuming they continue to sell them as an indepedent.

I've had a few over the last 25 years, 19 actually, that I've bought with my own money and bought them to use, not as a vehicle for profit. I am big enough and old enough to realise what I am buying.
The advert can be taken as a bit of fun, but with whats been posted lately, suspect its not. I actually find it quite amusing that some dealers are looking for sympathy at all from the punters...

Yes, he takes the p1ss and has a go on certain topics, but if you read all his posts you will see that he does so with a hint of sadness that TVR is not all that it could be.
As for the number plate ad, I simply thought it was tongue in cheek.

I too think it was just done for a laugh, do we not all at some time have a poke at the supposed TVR 'reliability'?
So much media attention on build quality and reliability etc etc....
But they still sell and people will still admire them.....
It might not be as solid as one would expect of a car of its value, but then why dont you try to find a car at its value that performs better than exotics costing 2-3 times more!
You paid for the performance, and everything else you happily accepted in your research before buying it... and I've come across many dealers who do highlight that extra TLC is needed and these cars are sensitive... so they're not sold fraudelenty...
Hawthorns is a good place, although I do think they can better on their bills (bloody high labour costs!!!).... and so are Mole Valley very good, but these outfits have just had enough of the crap they have to deal with and its understandable that they dont want TVR to go under, they just want them to change their ways of working... which wont be happening any time soon.
Goodluck to the independants, and good luck to TVR, I hope you both realise the disadvantages of the routes you take.
In my opinion, TVR is a typical british bulldog, stiff upper lip and wont take any crap.... and I really think that its something that will keep them going in their specialist niche market... if they change their ways, the cars will cost a lot more... and then ok, we might get more reliable, better build quality and solid cars, but at what cost? Money! Exactly.
My message to TVR if you're reading, "keep the cars coming, but do take notice of dealers worries, earlier than later, everybody wants to run a successful business with minimum fuss, and you guys have to put aside your dictatorship and become a little more democratic chaps."
I just hope they dont sell up to someone who will rip the company to shreds and then we end up with TVR's and no parts!!!!

Let me clarify - I won't buy a TVR from someone who sells TVRs and then makes jokes about their reliability on a public forum.
Rod Barrett could be the nicest man in the world for all I care, the point is that I don't expect a professional to make jokes like that at the expense of the marque he sells and the customers who keep him in a job. Regarding reading through his other posts to get some context for his remark, they are irrelevant unless we can guarantee that everyone who sees that advert will go and read his posts and understand how he meant it.
The ad is unprofessional and unwise. Do you recall one Mr Ratner who was forced out of the company he founded for referring to his products as 'crap'? I don't see how a TVR dealer stating that the registration plate he is selling is, "The only part of your TVR that will not break down!!!" on a public forum is any different.

I can take and make jokes about my car - see my response to griff2be for an explanation of why I think the advert is totally inappropriate.
