non starting issue

Just tried to start the cerb (97 4.2) to take it for a spin across to Mums (mother's day) & it doesn't want to play.
Car's been out of use over winter, has had a trickle charger on & has been started & moved eac month with no problems.
Went to it today, as usual pressed starter button & ignition lights came on, but when I pressed the fob - no MIL light or buzzer! so can't go any further.
Have checked fuses in the back & played with the silver immobilizer key (which I usually avoid like the plague) but nothing as yet. Can hear a click on the starter solenoid when pressing the start button, but usually the car won't burst into life until the MIL light is on & the buzzer sounds, obviously these usually go off as soon as the car's running.
