Had my car in to Mazda-Mender over the weekend for a bit of TLC...
Brake overhaul all round and Cambelt/waterpump/thermostat housing.

When he took the old waterpump off, we were rather suprised with what was found.

The car didnt have issues with overheating, although it warmed up in the morning very quickly, and the cooling fan came on quite a lot..

so there you go kids.. just because it isnt leaking, doesnt mean your waterpump is working properly!.. for the extra couple of quid its definately worth doing when getting the cambelt done!

What is that?
Mine had its cambelt done four years ago.
My car found it hard to warm up quick in winter, but now its at temp in a few mins.
Have no idea whether water pump has ever been changed.
Should I changed it as matter of course?

I can not answer that question Lazza, i have never hit this one in 20 odd years of these roadsters, the only thing i can think of, is that it is the OE pump from day one,( which to be honest as done really well????)and the fins have just rotted off???the tack welded bit is still on the disk???

I've never seen or heard of that happening before. It would be worth posting that on the miata.net forum to see if they have any similar stories in the states. If anything happens it usually happen over there first rolleyes
