I'm a qualified prince 2 practitioner (have been for 3 years) and run complex projects as part of my core current work (day rate consultancy focusing on public/private sector design, tendering and implementation). With the changes to government though, work is drying up so I'm now going to tweak the career into pure Project Management. I think the first step should be PMP accreditation and some bolt on stuff like change and risk management to reflect my experience and then move onto MSP / PgMP. I'm also talking to some recruitment agencies to source some lower paid roles than I've been going for to expand my sector footprint. Have I missed anything? Has anyone gone through this themselves?

Thanks in advance

This will be all about what you've done and for whom in the past; that's what'll give you your credibility, not just some courses. If you have some big names and big projects on your cv you should have no problems. If you don't, then I would work very hard to get some, and I mean FTSE 50 or household public sector. Good luck!

Thanks - I've got two central government departments on the CV already - reckon that will be appealing to private sector?

Possibly, but it all depends on who and scale of project and your specific involvement. It's all about differentiation; anyone can do courses, but not everyone will have done certain jobs. If you're looking to stand out in a crowded market place it may well be who you know (read who you've worked for) and not what you know (read specific 'top-up' courses). I'd seek out any opportunity to get a big private sector name on my cv regardless, initially, of my level of responsibility/involvement. Good luck!
