Hi guys,

As I am sure that you have seen on the other thread I picked up the Griff from Andy on Saturday and had a great drive home. I had test driven a few cars but nothing really prepares you for how savagely fast they are when you are on your own with no worried owner to slow you down! My friend an I had a great drive back through the tunnels in Stoke on Trent where we bumped into an excited Farrari F430 driver who was also enjoying the soundtrack! I have scared myself silly being caught out in showers today (again Andy did warn me!) I have never experienced such a sudden and complete lack of traction at such high gears!

Andy had told me about a few problems so if anyone knows any fixes please let me know:

1) Speedo is playing up, stays at 10mph even when stopped and doesnt go above 70mph. Andy thinks that the sensor was knocked when he removed the diff, I have had a look in the bible but no advice on how far the sensor is supposed to be from the castalated drum.

2) I have a water leak into both the driver and passenger footwells, I think that it is coming through the bulkhead and it appears that someone has tried to fix it in the past with silicone. Anyone aware of any better solutions?

Other jobs to do,

I need to get a new dash and switch pannel so if anyone can recommend either getting one laser cut or a supplier I would be greatfull (I really want a turned ally one)

I need to get a new hood and the targa recovered, again any recommendations massively appriciated

1. I usually work on the idea that the closer the sensor is to the wheel, the better the signal (within reason). My car was set to have 1mm of clearance, and this seems to work. Check each tooth carefully - the wheels themselves are not particularly nicely made items. (Not made a better solution yet, but it is on my list)

2. Sikaflex or silicone works well if it's in the right place. It has to be packed tightly into the corners of the bodywork at the bottom corners of the screen - I suspect this is where your leak is coming from.

3. I have a reasonably good DXF drawing of a Griff dash and heater switch panel. It has been used to laser cut my own dash, although this isn't exactly a standard layout these days. I'd be willing to share it.

4. No idea who to go to about hoods since I did mine myself. Don't undertake this yourself unless you are really sure you can do it - I was very nervous the first time the car was sat in the rain!

Very good reports about them, and have been doing hoods and interior re trims for a very long time. Specialise in classic Jag interiors and we have used them in work for MX5 soft tops.

I had intermitent speedo action. I cleaned the sensor surface without taking it off with 220 wet and dry. Its a tight fit 0.5mm clearance. You need long thin fingers.
Check the rubber fuel hose near the bonnet catch. Old ones are prone to crack on the bend, spill petrol and cause a fire. Renew ASAP.

I have spoken to Car Hood, they indeed sound like a great place to go, a bit of a drive for me down to south wales from Nottingham so I may look at getting a trailer. Also the dilemma or whether to go with a black or blue hood??

I will have a go at cleaning up the speedo sensor to see if that helps things

With regards to the leak, I have just recieved my Leven hood cover and it is great! I hope it will stop the worst of the water getting in until I can do something about the bulkhead leak. I may investigate to see if Frost have any good sealants and will let you know how I get on.

I'd also make sure that you check advices posted on the speedo & trigger have some relevance to the version fitted on your car.

Sounds like the dash is at fault to me, BTW (speedo or signal splitter for ECU ~ Andys' was GKN+T5 wasn't it???? ((forgotten already )))
