Have you installed the drivers for the usb to serial adaptor?

You have to set it to com port 1 on your laptop. If you've installed the drivers that would be my next check.

Hi

Not all serial usb convertors will work, I had one that wouldn't £3 from ebay and all sorted. I now have it up and running and I'm not far from you (I think?) If you need any help.

Have you got the latest software from GV website? Should be a yellow cerb on the front screen.

Check USB is on COM 1 as it isn't normally there (mine was on 5), need to go to device manager, select the device properties etc.

Then you should be all good.

I had a cheapo ebay adapter that didnt work.

nrick, a few weeks ago you sugessted we could meet up to try a heater ecu swap, if you are still up for that it would be useful to give it a go. It would be good to see your car too. Are youaround Gloucester towards the end of the week?

Hi

Car up on axle stands at the moment, long story but I'd thought I might be able to get a few odd jobs done. If I get chance I'll see if I can finish it before the end of the week.

Thanks for replys
I've managed to change to com 1 But still can't connect to ECU.
Are you using the 3 pin connector in drivers footwell or going direct to ecu

Hi,

If this helps - you need to have the ignition on, also I find it always connects when the fuel pump primes - then the software /comms should connect.

Thought I mention this, as it took some digging through the forums to figure what I was missing out. Thankfully I have an old laptop with a serial port... so I don't have the issue of USB to serial.

Hope this is of some use.

Karlx.

3 pin for me, ignition on. What operating system are you running.

Xp is best, but will work on other systems. Need to make the .exe file xp compatible

OK there is no rush, it would just be useful to be sure its the heater ecu before I send it off repair.

I had the same problem connecting to ecu via the three pin connector. The only way to get it working was to use the nin-pin serial direct to the ecu. I have installed a 9-pin cable permanently in the car (removed the housing of the connector on the ecu side, made a small hole in the ecu housing).
