Power steering loss
Discussion
Towards my journey getting home the other day after "spirited" driving the steering started to become heavy. On inspection the power steering fluid had bubbled out through the lid. It was very hot. After leaving for a few hours the level had returned to normal. Havent tried it since .. what was it or is it?

Fitted new pump and fluid .. still doing itChange the PAS relay the grey one in the engine bay... if possible put a 75amp in instead... I've moved mine into the passenger footwell and got rid of the unneccessay wiring.
I had exactly the same problem...MK2 are electro-hydraulic not engine fed like MK1s.
Although not sure about why it should be so hot

Check the condition/connection of the fuse for the power steering. This is situated in a loose fuse holder by the battery behind the cover in the N/S front wheel arch. I found mine to be corroded almost through giving a bad connection. This could give high temperature in the motor that drives the pump and the heat could transfer through the pump and fluid.
