Drivetrain Problems - Vibration

Morning All,
Fantastic weekend (Racing day at Croft, followed by a trip to Elfit/Tim's house to pick up a petrol tank to hopefully prep ready to fix my running problem, covered in other threads! Great to meet you Tim and thanks for the great drive on some brilliant local roads - pics to follow
However, by the time I got back I had developed a worrying vibration, so here's the symptoms:
- Vibration only felt at speeds below ~30 mph
- Only felt under deceleration - if you ease on the throttle it disappears
- feels like it's coming from the rear
- frequency decreases with a decrease in road speed
- When almost at a standstill, massively 'wobbles' the gearbox around until at a complete stop
- Present under deceleration whether in or out of gear, with clutch depressed or not, and with engine switched on or not
So, having done some research on here, I am thinking the most likely candidates are the prop shaft UJ's or the Drive shaft CV joints. So on sunday, got the car on axel stands, couldn't feel any play in the CV's but could hear a knock from the prop.
Have successfully removed the prop shaft after much swearing and using the technique from Marks website (thanks!!). There is some wear in the joints but not as much as I expected, the gearbox end joint does 'click' when you twist it though.
So questions:
1) Is it easy to refurb the propshaft myself, or better to give to the experts or source a new one, and does anyone have a good source? (Live in Chorley, Lancashire)
2) Could this small click lead to such a big vibration?
3) Am I barking up totally the wrong tree....
Advice appreciated. Needs to be ready for Scotland in a month so better hurry up

Sorry to have missed you on saturday...
Sounds like the prop shaft to me, I took mine to "Commercial Propshafts" - theres bound to be one in your local directory - they had it for less than an hour and charged me less than £40. For that money its not worth the hassle of doing it yourself - they als checked the balance, which you will not be able to do yourself.

It could be any of the problems you listed but do not rule out the gearbox mount. I had similar problems to you but at high speeds so i had a new propshaft and replaced all 4 cv joints which improved the problem but when i changed the gearbox mount the issue went away completely.

Cheers Tony - Maybe it's worth doing this while the propshaft is off anyway? Is it a difficult job? Where did you source new mounts? Quick search I found a Quinten Hazel part number (EM1536) but can they still be sourced?Cheers.....Tony..

I had lots of problems getting this part as it is obselete, but due to a twist of fate I ended up with 2 so I have a spare, if you are interested it is in classifieds http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2471704.htm I was going to keep it but if the old one lasted 20 years then it would be slightly OTT to keep it, send me a message through my profile if you are interested, It was a bAndrew
