Having been in the motor trade for many years now ive seen many offers from companies to claim the tax back against tools i have bought.

This seems like a good idea & having gone through all the reciepts i have it amounts to a considerable amount of money, trouble is they all claim 25%+ of the total money you can claim back.

How would i go about doing this for myself??? i have searched the net but have come up a blank??

Are you obliged to use your own tools by your current employer or do you use your own tools out of choice?

You should be able to make a claim for the use of your tools in your employment then. You could phone your tax office and explain the situation to them. They would probably send out to you an expense claim form P87.

Alternatively, you could apply to submit annual Self Assessment tax returns.
