What type of stamp?
Foot,rubber,postage

A footstamp from the wife can be very exspensive but not as exspensive as a rare postage stamp and rubber stamps cost about 99p upwards.

And the everyday uk 1st class is about 46p

A stamp costs nothing to make. It's the service you're paying for.

Why are we having a straw poll when then link reveals the answer?

I for one was totally unaware that it now costs 46p - I wanted to see what everyone's perception was before they clicked on the link.

If the current poll results are accurate, it shows clearly that people are unaware of the current (expensive) cost.

I can only see people sending less mail now, and so the price going up and up...

Interesting to see the wide range of answers. I was also far off the mark. Can't remember when I last had to post an envelope.

I think it's still a pretty good deal. I can pop something in an envelope, take it to a collection point (one of about 50,000 I'm guessing) very close to my house, and by the next day it gets to pretty much anywhere in the UK, hand delivered to the door. All for under 50p.

First class post is still good value. I send a lot of small parcels, most of them arrive the next day (even though I only ever post in the afternoon) and I can't think of a cheaper way to get them to their destinations.

Getting something anywhere in the country by tomorrow for under £1 is a bargain - let alone 46p!

At this rate I want it hand delivered on a bed of feathers by a fair maiden.

Will it ever be outsourced? If so, wait until five years and I suspect Tesco will muscle in on it.

What do you post... Doodlebugs?
If undelivered please return to Hitler wink

Have to agree though, all the crap about a poor postal service is probably from those who couldn't address a letter or parcel correctly if they tried!

My business relies on it, and has done since 87. I post most of my stuff late afternoon, and invariably all the first class stuff arrives the next day, much of it first thing!

Always annoys me at Xmas when all the Royal Mail critics come out of the woodwork as do those once a year posters, 'I sint eet fust class an eet neva arrived - dredful survis'.
Probably because the prat put 'Aunt Mary, Last house on the left, St Albans.'rolleyes

46p is still cheaper than 1st class post in most other EU countries - it's about a quid in Germany.
