Thought that I'd ask on here before resorting to sending my (just out of warranty) unit in for repair. I hadn't used the unit for a while, but had left it fully charged. Tried using it yesterday and it wouldn't turn on. Fine, need to charge it up.

Plugged the mains charger in and the unit will not charge (no red led lit on the front). If I switch it on whilst the mains is attached the batter symbol is showing as fully charged, which I suspect is why it will not charge further even though the battery is completely dead. Unit itself functions fine in the car so long as the power lead is attached to the cigarette lighter.

Can't see to find a way to reset the unit, so I was wondering if anyone has had a similar issue and if there is a quick fix?

Cheers

I have a Road Angel Pro Connected I got 18 months ago as sounded like a good piece of kit. And one of the reasons I chose it over its rival Pogo was that it said it did not have to be hard wired as the RA had built in battery. It may have a battery in it but if so I could found any evidence of one. I would fully charge it and it would work for 10 mins then need to be connected up to the in car charger.
Sent it back explaining the problem and all they did was "up date the software" and did nothing about the battery issue. A few weeks later when I got round to phoning up to complain they had not fixed original problem and they said it was now out of warrenty. What amazingly customer services. Could not be a@@@ed to return it again and argue the toss over it so it has been in a drawer ever since.
Stupidly when I first got it I stuck up for the Road Angel unit on another thread on here against some guy who had a pathological hatred of them. Now I feel like a real mug. Apologies for going all Watchdog on you all but if you google the issue will find it is a common problem. So if not having a charging cable trailing across your dash is one of your main concerns don't chose a RA.

Can I ask, did you deal direct with Blackspot or go through a third party vendor?

Is your connected for sale?

It must be a faulty unit because mine is now 2 years old and I put it on charge at night then stick it in whatever vehicle I'm using and it lasts about 6 hours I keep the car lead around just in case but have not needed to use it

Great good to know thanks. My RA experience has been good for several years and am getting Connected so to speak anytime soon.

Sent mine in for repair but yet to hear the diagnosis, otherwise it has been a good unit. Battery life not an issue and never had to use the in car power lead until now.

ETA: really missed it on a recent trip down the M42, what with all those fixed cameras that are all over the variable speed limit gantrys

Not a very large census, but the indication here is, Connected seems like a good device.

Well, fair play to Road Angel they have fixed it under warranty (replaced battery) even though it was a couple of months out of warranty, but it has come back to me with a quite badly scratched face (on the inside of the plastic) irked. Not enough to mean I can't use it, but it was in perfect condition when I sent it away.

I guess a polite letter thanking them etc might be a good idea and mention that in no way was it scratched before sending it to them might be worth a try and send a photo with the letter.
