TVR 2500 Vixen
Discussion
As a regular reader of the classics forum I thought is was about time I contributed and pulled my finger out to post a couple of pics of my recently restored 2500. I bought this car in 2007 to restore and it's been back on the road since late 2009. With minor problems sorted out in 2010 I'm hoping to put some miles on the car in 2011.
Once I have shoe horned myself into the car I love driving it and the overdrive which I added during the restoration is real bonus.
The car is in pretty much standard trim but the mark experts will notice the two missing features you would expect to see on a TVR made in 1971.

Hi All
Thanks for your comments. The two missing items I had in mind were the side repeaters and the sun roof. In my view the large side repeaters are just plain ugly on '71 cars and I have purchased a set of the type used on the S2 which are much smaller (Lucas model 934 ?) though not fitted yet. The original sunroof was knackered and I'm no fan of them either so I filled it in. It also saved a bit of dosh and made the making and fitting of the new head liner a bit easier as well.
As for the twin tail pipes, the stainless steel exhaust came with the car so it got re-used. Most people who comment on it think it looks the business !
Anyone know any history of this car ? It has a Derby registration and I bought it from a guy in Alfreton so I guess it may have spent much of its life in that part of the world.

Yep, side lights in the headlights. My car didn't have those Royal Enfield side lights beneath the headlamps, and I could not see any evidence of them ever having been fitted. I remember investigating this in various TVR books I have and it seemed like they were last used on the S2 in 1970 and not used on the S3 & 2500 in 1971.
Is this correct ?
Is this correct ?
I wondered what the hole was for next to my side grille! Trouble is I only have the hole on one side! As you may already have guessed my knowledge of the mark is very limited but did the early S2s have side repeaters and when did the first models with the side repeaters next to the headlight first appear?

This is an early S2 which is accurate in terms of finish. (although the real anoraks will pick up the front indicators not being sparto. The side repeaters are in the correct place and were original on this car. Not all vixens left the factory with the large chrome ones) The royal enfield type side lights were also there and also the number plate individual letters on the grill were correct as it left the factory.
This is a car which regretfully I sold when I shouldn't have. it went to Italy and still runs around on its UK plates there.
