Funeral Road Rage
Discussion
This story did shock me a bit, I was surprised that so many people seem to be 'disrespecting' funeral processions in this way. I understand passing when appropriate if you really need too, but some of this behaviour is just uncalled for.

Exactly that happened to my dad's funeral procession.
We were doing I guess 35MPH or so on a short NSL stretch just before the right turn into the crematorium when a twunt in a Mercedes overtook then cut in between the second funeral car and the one we were in. Made heavy use of his horn and lights then overtook us, suggested we shook some coffee beans in the middle of doing so and cut in way too close forcing the driver to brake hard before tearing off.
It couldn't have been more obvious - two black herses with the funeral directors plaques on the side and back - what we were or where we were going.
Nice...

It may seem like disrespect, but it's really just stupidity and selfishness.
Not quite on topic..I ran a fell race yesterday,of which about 0.5 mile was on road. There were posters all along the course, most of them across open fields
obviously..but plenty on the short tarmaced section.Came to the section of road where a car was pulled up just short of where we crossed and a very angry woman
was yelling "but we're in a hurry and we just need to turn round" and the marshall (with attending local bobby) was replying "madam there are posters up all along
the road you have just driven up telling you of the course of the race, and they've been there for days. You'll have to reverse and go around."
Curiously she was driving a Mercedes.

My Mum sadly and very suddenly passed away the other week and we had her funeral with the hearse and 2 limos following.
I must say that all drivers at every junction (including crossing a busy city centre) were very kind and stopped to allow the entire funeral cortege to all follow in convoy.
My faith in human nature was restored!
A lovely Ferrari Dino passed us (in the opposite direction) as we turned into the crematorium; maybe Mum was sending me her approval for a future purchase!

The fact is someone will end up getting killed over this.
Imagine some nobber cutting up Ronnie and Reggie's mum's procession?
Or something similar. Emotions running very high, someone looking to take out anger on someone and you've got yourself one dead road rage driver.
Not saying thats right in any way but hassling people at the funeral of a loved one could result in more than the usual V sign horn and lights retort.

Out on the bike last summer enjoying myself and a funeral procession went the other way, felt like a complete idiot after.
Would never cut into a procession or act like an idiot though, just a sign of the times I suppose.
This is true. When i was a kid, people would have let the funeral cortege pass, and been respectfull, but now, they see it as an afront to their driving ability, and manhood, having to sit behind a funeral cortege as it makes it's way along. Sadly, this country will only get far worse, not betterWould never cut into a procession or act like an idiot though, just a sign of the times I suppose.
Not road rage but I did witness some boneheaded driving on my way to my Mother-in-law's funeral. The last mile to the crematorium was on roads with speed bumps which needed to be taken at very low speed to avoid sending the coffin flying. Halfway through a Peugeot decided that this was the right time to overtake the funeral cortege (one hearse, one limo) as well as a couple of cars that were holding back. The overtaking manoeuvre was only completed by:
1. cutting up the hearse
2. oncoming traffic braking to a halt.

Very true imoTM
I had a rent-a-kill van join the precession for my late cousin.
We had to cross a roundabout and the hearse had already joined when the van came from the right. Fair enough it was his right of way and the lead limo (1 of 3) had to give way to him but surely he could of waited or pulled over after learning his mistake, but no he went the whole remainder of the trip (around a mile) in the precession.
I know it sounds like a humorous anecdote but unfortunately it really isn't, maybe it was my cousin having a laugh.

my mothers friend dies a few years ago, drove her to the funeral. followed the hearse from his house, think i was 2nd or 3rd car in the procession, but she'd forgotten to tell me he had something to do with the local hells angel/biker/trike community! so i was very suprised to be constantly overtaken by a stream of leather/denim clad bikers, doing a fantastic job of riding ahead, shutting off every junction and roundabout so the procession could remain together!
but, i've twice seen incredibly bad driving from the funeral cars of our local undertakers, driving very fast and flashing lights to move people out of their way. both times without coffins or mourners, i should add...

I still don't get why:
a) people care so much about funerals, I couldn't care less what's going to happen to my body when I'll die. Is some builder going to overtake my coffin or not
b) people think I should pay my respect to somebody I never knew. For what I know, he could be a paedo, a taxi driver or even a politician!
c) mourners can't leave their mourning to the funeral as in cemetery, church etc. Not the roads.
d) funeral companies park their limos as close to the door as possible, blocking the traffic or not because a lazy ass priest can't walk 50yards to a normal parking space.
There was a very good reply from a guy who runs the funeral business. He said he doesn't have a problem at all with people overtaking them as long as they don't do any crazy stunts.
So I will continue to do so when possible...
