Volkswagen Camper T25 - advice please!

I've been offered a '91 T25 autohomes Kamper. Its the 1.6TD variant and its done just over 100k. The interior and conversion itself looks to be in fairly decent nick, the bodywork has some rusting which has been treated to at the rear arches. Its still taxed & tested until Autumn and I havent yet had a chance to give it a run. Has anyone got any first hand experience with these and could they give some advice on what to look for etc. Anyone know the MPG figures for the 1.6TD? Apparently theyre a lot better than the NA version which was underpowered. This one has a lot of history and looks a fairly original example. It's had a lot of engine work about 12k ago which was about 6 years ago. Still can't decide whether its a good or bad idea! Its offered at £3k.

Though if it is clean and useable you could possibly have some fun over the summer and move it on without losing money as a project for someone.
