I am looking for some advice. We are renovating our house and creating a dressing room where we would like to have fitted wardrobes. Nothing too crazy just about 5m length into and out of a corner. Inside them we just require lots of hanging space and a few shelves. So no expensive interior fittings.

So we have spoken to both John Lewis and also a nice local company and the fitted prices are coming in at £3.2k and 4.7k which is a crazy amount of money for relatively simple wardrobes and not even solid wood.

So thinking of doing it myself and wondering are there any recommended suppliers of fitted wardrobes? Looked at Ikea but the standard sizes just don't work in the room.

I fitted a few from Homebase which went without a hitch. East enough to do, just take your time with it.
I'm about to fit sliding mirror doors in my bedroom but the ceiling height is less than standard so I'm having to pay twice the norm for a one off size. Grrr.

The Ikea system is actually very good , despite my dislike of their products this is the only thing I would buy from them.

Another one here who was pleasantly suprised by the Ikea offerings. I'm not generally a fan of Ikea, but for the price their Pax system offers a reasonable product.

We have the Ikea Pax system in three rooms, they were 30mm too tall but were very easy to cut down, one also had to be reduced width ways, no problems re drilling for the shelf fixings. We didn't use the Ikea doors, but I'm guessing it's going to be a walk in dressing room so no doors required.

The Pax system is great and we have it in our bedroom. It's so much more efficient than normal wardrobe space and is of a reasonable quality for rock bottom prices.

However, we did have fitted wardrobes installed in our spare bedroom - did the whole length of the wall with full height units with a variety of hanging space and shelves. We used MDF, painted it and then fitted large expensive feature handles. It basically made the units look alot more expensive than they were. We got a local joiner to do it - cost circa £1,500 4 years ago.

Speak to friends and get a recommended local joiner, not one of these companies who do fitted wardrobes. At the same time as we were getting ours done a neighbour was have some fitted robes done in exactly the same style of house as us, using one of these specialist companies - their's cost £4,500.

+1 for Ikea PAX, if you can get it to work.
Goes together quickly once you know the routine.
Not good if you want to take it apart and reassemble elsewhere, but for the money, why bother.

I love the way no one is reading that Ikea may not be for you yet they are still suggesting!

As has been said, go with a local joiner.

IMO, a more personal bespoke service!

I have done Ikea Kitchens in the past and have been happy for the price.

Just need to make them fit and I think they will
