Time for a replacement engine??
Discussion
My 1990 S2 is a bit rattly at the top end, it has manual tappets of course and therefore can be adjusted.
I did this and there was a marked improvement but it is more than tappet noise. I know the Ford lump likes frequent oil changes, neglect this and they do get noisy. The oil feed pipes inside the engine clog and engine wear is the result as these areas become starved of oil.
I'm sure we have all heard the old granada V6 rattling along the road.
I'm looking to replace my lump with a recon unit - anyone done this, if so where did you go and how much did it cost?
A Ford salvage place near me recently had a Cosworth V6 engine for little money, does this fit the S ....any mods required? It was in an accident damaged Granny so was probably OK (not too hammered).

the person to speak to is GBGaffer (graham). He did the conversion to his S4. Penninsula did the majority of the work so might be worth getting in touch with them.
From conversations with Graham I would say its not an easy swap and a lot of hard work and effort is needed. Grahams car also had the wider chassis (ie better handling) and rear discs as standard. You might struggle with the stopping power with drums, although a cheap Griff 500 front brake conversion might be the answer.
On the other hand, its fecking fast, sounds lovely and very different. I want.

Oooooh ....thanks for that info. I may just keep it standard. It's been off the road waiting for the fuel sender for 2 weeks and I miss it too much for any long projects.
Perhaps a recon standard lump sometime?
Anyone know of a reasonable place to fit one and any prices?
Burton Power, IIRC they advertise in Fast Ford and offer recon V6 units
Theres always this....

I had my engine rebuilt by www.specialisedengines.co.uk,
The total cost having the work don by Auto Tune at Hinckley was £3K but this included alloy timing gear, unleaded and reworked heads, blueprinting, new cam,new radiator, clutch and many more parts and this was a full engine rebuild, Specialisedengines are Ford engine rebuilders.Although the engine is standard it now runs sweeter than ever
