My new VW Golf R

So, I’ve got myself a new daily driver to replace the ageing MY01 Audi S3. It’s a MY11.5 VW Golf R manual 5 door hatch.
Due to the waiting period here (now out to 8-12 months) I cancelled my order placed with a dealer here in Sydney and went shopping around Australia, seeing what dealers had what in stock. I eventually found a manual in Rising Blue (the only colour for the R in my opinion) at a dealership about 40 minutes outside of Melbourne in Victoria. The spec was pretty basic which was fine with me. It has:
Bluetooth
MDI with Ipod cable
Dynaudio stereo upgrade (which is bloody amazing for the small extra amount you pay for it)
So, a couple of weeks ago I flew down to Melbourne on a Tuesday night, got in around 11pm, got a hotel room, then caught a train out to the outer eastern suburbs. Rocked up at the dealer and away we went. I decided to take the long way home – instead of just a simple blast up the Hume Highway which I could get done in about 8-9 hours I went out to Lakes Entrance on the eastern coast of Victoria, then headed up due north through Bombala, Cooma, around the outskirts of Canberra before heading up to Sydney – roughly 1000kms.
I did this in a single day and it was completely effortless. Seats are superb, very good support and I finished up the drive without any fatigue or anything like that. For a stock hatch it’s got pretty impressive acceleration, especially in third and fourth gear making overtaking a breeze, and it is happy to cruise at a decent clip over undulating terrain.
Anyway, I’ve had it just over 2 weeks now, over 2000kms in that time and still grinning when I drive it.
I’ve got some more pictures which I will provide, but here it is at my parents property the day after I picked it up, complete with no number plates, unregistered vehicle permit (because I bought it interstate) and lots of dead bugs and dirt from where it was considered appropriate to rip up the tarmac for a few kms of the drive.
I’ve got some more pictures of my picking it up at the dealers on the other camera, and I’ll upload them soon.
