Digital cartridges for film cameras

He's certainly thought it through, down to setting the ISO because the camera has no way of knowing how sensitive the sensor is. Only one spelling mistake too!

Wouldn't that depend on the cost?

I had a Minolta Dynax 7000i (I think it was) and that was a brilliant (IMO) camera and if this was an option, I would have bought one of these - If this cartridge is cheap enough, it would be more cost effective to buy this, try out "this digital photography malarky" and then buy a proper DSLR.

There are still some very good SLRs out there but 35mm film prices can be prohibitive and you don't get the same level of flexibility that you do from a digital camera.

Or something like that anyway.

Reading up about this, and someone was saying it's been to trade shows, and the PR company behind the logo have been promoting this for some time. So not entirely sure it is a practical joke. I'm probably wrong though.

That ain't new. Imagek, later called Silicon Film, had prototypes on show back in the nineties, when a DSLR was £15,000 or more. It never made it to market, because digital cameras got better and cheaper in less time than it was going to take to make it work.

We are a good 13 years on now. CCDs are cheaper, memory is cheaper, processing power is way cheaper, and I'd imagine technology has moved on somewhat.

And if people are spending several thousand on a body, if one of these came on the market for less than a grand I can see them selling quite a few to well heeled hobbyists. Lets face it, people buy Aston Martins to go to the shop, when could have just bought a Yaris, so there is money out there.

Right price, I'd definitely go for one for fun.

I agree, it would be great if it can be made to work with more modern tech, and I'd certainly be interested in one. It would have to be full frame 35mm though.

On the bright side, I'm pretty sure there's digital backs available for some of the medium format cameras.
