As some of you know, my lovely Series 1 Morgan was keyed and vandalised by some scumbag. Very soon she will be returning from the paintshop, with immaculate Jaguar Solent Silver paint (it's actually a pale light blue metallic). Gorgeous colour - but one thing that Morgan have said is that my car's paintwork was a bit degraded anyway - a functio of it being used in London and not absolutely cosseted (I keep it mechanically perfect, but do not wax it every week).
While I love the colour, a change that preserves the paintwork might be a nice idea - and there we have the vinyl wrap plan. Given that the cost of refreshing the paint was over £10k, this may be cost effective (I realise that having someone detail the car for about £500 could also get slightly tired paint back up again, of course)
If I wanted a change, does anyone have good experience with a wrap? I would like a metallic: is this possible with a wrap? (Aston Martin sage Green is a favourite contender here, or Viper GTS blue for something a bit punchier than the current hue). For a flat colour, I was thinking about Porsche's Mexico blue, as I think it would quite suit the car.
And does anyone have recommendations for reputable companies in and around south London, who will do a wrap that when it is removed, won't have wrecked the paint underneath?

Just as a thought, you can get a complete vehicle clear wrap. That will protect the paintwork and keep the colour you wanted.
Or i've seen a few people on Teamspeed.com have has a clear satin wrap.

I'm no expert on this. But I fail to see how you can have something potentially sticky that won't start and peel with ease, yet won't run the risk of damaging the paintwork. You either get good bonding or you don't. I have had a play around with 3m's Di-noc. And I can see how it might be removed, but it'll be a camble on what potential paint damage and 3m even say they can't gaurantee it won't cause damage. They also recommend the use of an additional bonding agent on areas that are more likely to be at risk of peeling.

If you wrap a freshly painted car, the paint will be protected.
I know people who had their car wrapped from new, and 2 years later when the wrap is removed it is perfect underneath.
Oh, and for a recommendation, these guys did David Yu's GT-R and a couple of ecurie25's cars, which i've experienced first hand. First rate job done:

It wasn't just a respray - they had kicked the hell out of it and smashed things too. Whole car back to Malvern, all panels off, striped to bare metal, reformed, repainted. I insisted that the car had to be as new, rather than patched up...

Obviously not in the same league as GT3RSs and the like but done properly the results are very impressive...

One thing I would say though that if you're expecting it to cost less or even the same as a "mates rates" respray then you'll be in for a shock. It's not as expensive as a proper engine & interior out shell respray, but expect to pay £1000+ for a medium sized car.

I seem to recall David Yu's GT-R cost about £1800 to have wrapped in purple vinyl, and the GT-R is a fair old size beastie too,so around that sort of price i should think. Harry, it has to be the olive GT3 racer colour, with black wheels IMHO
About £2k to do mine - but they haven't seen the car: it's actually quite small.Sadly I can't do the olive colour as I have realised it won't go with the Navy hood
