The RMT said Mr Crow ‘turned down the opportunity to buy his council house at a substantial discount because he believes social housing stock should be available for future generations’
Available for future generations but not available for the current one because he's in it when he can amply afford to rent/buy privately. And why would he want to buy it anyway? He's paying half the market rent and and maintained free by the council.
I don't see how he can get away with this? Aren't benefits like this means tested?
Still compared to taxpayer funded union reps this is a drop in the ocean.

It's not just nationally. In Reading, 3 union reps received £100k pa funding for their left-wing roles.Still compared to taxpayer funded union reps this is a drop in the ocean.

If he moves into a nice house with the money he has earned then the Daily Mail etc are just going to try and crucify him for that.
As such he has stayed in the house that he has made his home over the years as he has every right to do so despite him now being more fortunate. A non story really.

Any headline about Bob Crow that is not "Bob Crow hit by tube train and killed" seems a little bit wrong to me.
I don't know, I'd also be contented to read;"Bob Crow gored to death by wild boar."
"Bob Crow killed in freak tin-opener accident."
"Bob Crow bummed to death by gorilla on trip to zoo."
"Bob Crow abducted by aliens." (At least they'd conclude there was no intelligent life here and, hopefully, f
k off and leave the planet alone.)Willie Dee said:

Being paid over £10,000 A MONTH he should do the decent thing and free up his social housing for some in our area that need it. It's some facile bonding with the masses type thing I expect. Or is he just a self serving odious man living in the 1970's?
Slightly O/T, but I wonder what other perks are quietly being bestowed on the great and good 'elected' representatives of the hard-working men and women?

I agree with Wille Dee, his perfectly entitled to continue with his housing arrangements as the previous ten years. Recently we debated the tax evasion and avoidance issues, most here agreed that tax avoidance is all perfectly legal and acceptable, which it is of course. So thats taking advantage in a legal sense and its perfectly OK, seems to me double standards are alive and well in here.Being paid over £10,000 A MONTH he should do the decent thing and free up his social housing for some in our area that need it. Whilst i also agree with Willie Dee, i wholely disagree with your comparison between Crow and those who engage in tax avoidance - difference being that they are trying to retain as much as their earnings as possible and Crow is a parasite. Honestly, £150 a week rent for someone who earns £145k a year.Isn't it Bob Crows members who strike because they claim that they need a pay rise to find suitable/affordable housing in London? Another "social" house being taken up by someone who wouldn't pass any means testing.
I do also like the reason given by one tube driver on LBC earlier in the year as to why they deserve an increase on their £40k odd salary, it was "because they spend a lot of their time underground"

Bob Crow is an arse – but Grant Shapps has a bit of a cheek moaning about it as he only recently decided that existing social housing tenants will not undergo means testing – the new measures enabling housing associations and councils to charge up to 80% of market rents will only affect future tenants.
