Nurburgring 24 hour
Discussion
Think about heading over to the Nurburgring 24 this year and was after a bit of advise
Has anyone ever been and would you recommend it?
We were thinking of leaving late Thursday and camping until Monday, Heard it's a bit of a free for all and just pitch a tent where theres room is that the case?
Can you just turn up and pay on the gate for viewing or is it better to buy tickets in advance?
what are the facilities like? I'm not imagining all that great.
any other links / recommendations would be great
Thanks
Andy

in no order:
buy tickets when you get there, dont think there's any real advantage in pre buying - you get a weekend pass from the main reception area.
camping - yep a real free for all, stayed at Muulenback last year, facilities were OK, but we were 1 min from 1 block of showers/loos etc ( main gate ) and was no drama to wander back to the tents if they were rammed. Even had a tumble dryer which was handy!
if it lookslike being cold it'll be silly cold, slept in clothes inside 2 sleeping bags and was freezing - think its a bit later this year? so that might be a bonus.
facilities at track good - you buy a Ring card and put credit on it - you use that everywhere for drinks/food - no cash at the circuit.
there's not much in Nurburg - if you've been to Le Mans its about half teh size of Arnage?
If you're into GT type racing yep its fine, the atmosphere isnt like LMans, yes the Germans/dutch party amongst themselves but as the circuit is so big its kind of spread out so you dont get the same party type atmosphere you;'d find along the road at say Maison Blanche/Bleu as a comparison to LM.
camping is cheap, if you need electric take a very long extension lead or 3!
bar at the campsite which is handy.
thats about it i guess.....

Evening chaps. A group of us have all clubbed together, bought a nice S500 and are heading down to the 24 hours at the Ring after a sneeky trip to Berlin. I've done Le Mans for the last 10 years or so in Maison Blanche, so fancy a change of scene! Also couldn't resist and just have to go see that mad Ferrari P4/5 racing...
Sounds like not many people go over from the UK, info is thin on the ground, even this thread is 2 months old!!!
We should be getting there Thursday mid afternoon or so.
Wheres the best place to camp? The few people that I've found on the net have gone have all stayed at Mulleanbach?
Would it be bad form to turn up with RAF roundels on the doors...Le Mans style?!

Mullenbach is i think about the only place that makes sense in terms of being able to walk to the main entrance. As already stated somewhere - its a free for all, dont expect to be guided to a spot or given a plot - you pay at the gate ( they have no idea how many they have let on or how much space is available still ) and you drive around looking for somewhere big enough for your tent/gear. If you are planning on using their electric hook ups - then long ( i mean long ) extension leads are the order of teh day.
Check teh weather 1st, if its wet its like le mans - boggy.
you can walk to teh main entrance ( uphill) in 20 mins or so, bus passes the campsite every 20 mins or so?
bar at the entrance to teh campsite.
Thurs/fri it'll be quite full onsite i'd imagine, the germans get there earlier in teh week.
