Evening

Looking at taking Mrs Davie on a 2/3 day break up north but struggling to find any reasonably priced, decent hotels along the route. I'm not looking for anything posh, just somewhere clean to bed down for the night given most the time will be spent driving/walking/eating so facilities such as a pool, four poster bed and so on aren't needed!

The intended route was up to Inverness, a night in and around that area then down to Fort William for another night then back home on day three. Have already exhausted Laterooms and several sites but these days of cheap, decent B&B seems to be long gone or those that are at the cheaper end of the scale seem to have pretty poor reviews. I appreciate you get what you pay for, but still!

Incidentally, any roads along that route that are well worth doing...

Thanks in advance

Dave

Not exactly in Fort William but I've stayed here a few times.

Good food, nothing too fussy just plain good.

Not sure about the Inverness area as I live too close to stay there much but a mate stays in the Glen Moriston any chance he gets.

hotelconnexions.com may be your friend for Scottish hotels, it's a scottish based site.

The Clachaig Inn in the middle of Glencoe is worth a night, without a doubt. Rooms aren't anything special, but the huge stone-flagged bar and open fire is excellent. Plus the location is stunning.

(price isn't outrageous either, by any stretch)

Have you checked to make sure that there isn't any large events happening in the area when you are wanting to go?

We recently tried to get decent accommodation in Inverness and struggled to find both availability and good value for money.

If you fancy staying a little further south on the A9 in Aviemore, then the Old Bridge Inn is brilliant. Service and food are great, and cheap accommodation is available either in the bunkhouse next door, or better quality rooms in the Ardlogie Guest House a couple of hundred yards up the road (PS: The breakfast is really good here smile ).

You can also use the Visit Scotland website to find B&B's.
