More Power, Same Price For Subaru WRX STI

Get extra bhp free, says Subaru, as part of limited-time offer

Subaru has revealed a limited-time spring offer to entice customers into the latest WRX STI. But instead of a discount on the four-wheel-drive icon, the company is offering a power upgrade for no extra cost.

Taking a leaf - presumably - out of those cans of lager and cereal packets that offer '13.5 per cent extra free!' and the like, Subaru has decided to bung in an extra 20bhp and 32lb ft of torque into its STI for all customers who order before the end of June, but for no change to the car's on-the-road price of £32,995.

But as well as shiny new outputs of 320bhp and 332lb ft (meaning 0-62mph is now dealt with in 4.9secs) that come from the Subaru UK-developed performance package, customers will also get sat-nav chucked in gratis. Which is nice.

The STI offer runs from April 1 until June 31 and applies to both saloon and hatch STI models.

Buying new really doesn't make sense does it? You can get more power and a better look if you just buy the last generation and it will cost a hell of a lot less

Just get a 2nd hand one and spend the 'saving' on mods :-)

Nothing new. They did this in 2005.

Offered the Prodrive Performace Pack for free. That's when I bought mine. But I also got a discount on the car too.

£33k! Even for the undoubted performance, I can think of better ways to spend £33k.

Sadly I think time has almost been called on this type of car. Apart from the "chav" stigma, the kind of people they are likely to appeal to are unlikely to be able to afford the bills.

I'd like a white one with white rims and a big wing on the back for 25k. Why do they advertise the sti in such boring colours without a wing, almost like it's a basic model?

Chav stigma? In what way does this model look 'Chav' in comparison to say..the RS3?

33k for the STI? How much is the slower, less capable RS3?

Having owned/thrashed a 2004 WRX for two years (including a Le Mans trip and ring action), I have to disagree. I bought it with 47,000 on the clock and sold it with 79,500 on. It never faultered. As long as they are serviced every 10k they are bullet proof.... And mega fun in ALL conditions.

2004 were fine IRCC, 2008 onwards are failing like flys. The extra 1/2 litre was a push too far. The number of Sti owners that have had problems with ringlands going is unbeliveable! I'm actualyl glad I bought the WRX diesel variant, which so far seems to be bulletproof.

Yeah there so many myths surrounding these cars...most of the failures I know of are on imports running low grade fuel and oil or the ej205's mapped without supporting mods...if you look at any customer satisfaction surveys they always rank high..... a standard unmolested car is a reliable car
