Can anyone recommend a back/spinal specialist? South/London

I'd like to see a private specialist in the South/London about a back problem that I've had all my life, and wondered if anyone had any recommendations?

The NHS aren't getting me anywhere at all; I'm just bounced between people who spend five or ten minutes with me at a time, refuse to give me an MRI or a proper examination, and I've never been given a diagnosis. After 17 years of this problem with no cure or respite, I've had enough.

When I found the same problems with my knee, I paid to see an excellent guy in London, who took the time to examine me properly, send me for an MRI, and then explain what was wrong, what needed doing, and how to cope if I decided not to have the operation. The experience was very positive, well worth the £500 it cost me and I'd like something similar for my back.

Any ideas? I'd pay good money to make it just 20% better, or even just to have a diagnosis.

Thanks, but I've seen a lot of physiotherapists and osteopaths already, and was more after a medical specialist (consultant, surgeon etc) who could refer for MRI, diagnosis and then recommend treatment based on that.

Mr David Harrison - he treated me (did my microdiscectomy). He operates at Windsor or Clementine Churchill in Harrow, and I believe he also does consultations at Harley Street.

I believe he is well respected and treats a lot of sporting people (you and I both participate in motorsport I believe?) In fact he knows someone who races in SEMSEC...

Great, thanks. I'll look him up. Yes, I race a single seater at club level at the moment, although it's not an injury related to that, it's a chronic back problem I've had all my life.

Mr schofield used to work at St peters in chertsey, might be able to get referred to him on nhs!

I've no idea if Mr Harrison does NHS, I can look up the costs if that helps, but it'll be a few hundred quid for the first consultation (around the 2-300) and then a few hundred for an MRI, repeat....

My injury wasn't from motorsport either, also a long term back issue, I have offered him a passenger ride in the 7 but he's really tall and I just don't think he would fit !

He still does NHS work but be prepared for a wait! My OH works at St Peters and couldn't even use staff perks to get to see him quicker!

Thank you for all the recommendations. I've booked in to see Jonathan Lucas next week. London Bridge Hospital is somewhere I've been before (London knee clinic is there too, which I would recommend) and it's quite convenient to me.

No, she was in the main Radiography dept but is now working in Nuclear Medicine doing bone densitometry so has some dealings with Ortho.

She would have been in the main radiography sept then so your paths may have crossed!
