ok basically i have a fresh import mx5, hasnt been registered yet, (im from n.ireland) got the car mot'd to chasis no. havent got any import papers with her, went to register it and the dvlni they say cant be done without import papers! bit of a stter for me spent the last 3-4 months getting this thing ready and now this! they say i can get a dating letter from mazda to prove cars age etc but its an extra 35 quid and can take up to two weeks just to get that in a bit of a rush now

Ask on the MX5OC forum. This spreadsheet may give you an approximate build date but I doubt it would satisfy DVLA.

Did you import yourself?

The de-registration papers from Japan would normally be in with the b/l and other docs.

Or did you buy from an importer? If so, they should have the Japanese de-reg that you need to register in the UK.

I did a few many years ago (Eunos that I still have, Celica GT4 and a Supra), but was never missing the Jap de-reg docs, it's fairly standard to keep them with the car.

i bought it private sale, but he didnt have any import papers,i got the car at reasonable price so didnt really bother me, been speaking to few other people looks like just going to have to get a dating letter from mazda uk, cheque sent in the post this morning so hopefully sorted soon thanks anyway lads...

That'll be why it was cheap then. smile

Fingers crossed Mazda are more on the ball than you'd expect.

Use the couple of weeks to polish and fettle, it's amazing how little spare time you'll have once it's on the road. wink

defo not stolen this is a rare thing i wouldnt have had it to long before someone came knocking if it was stolen lol .......
