We are doing a management feedback thing where we ask employees what things they need. One of the questions was:

"Apart from salary and bonus, what sort of things would you like to see us offer to make your job more satisfactory"

An answer from someone who clearly used to work in the public sector:

"How about recognition for 90% attendance at work, perhaps with days off as an incentive?"

I am going to find out who this person was, and fire them.

In my *clearly bizarre* corporate mind, one is paid to be at the office 100% of the time, unless on holiday. I'm not entirely sure how thisperson believes that skiving off for fully one day in 10 is deserving of...wait for it...more days off.

Retarded. But sort of funny.

We have it written in our office policy that 5 days per annum can be used as sick leave subject to managements discretion. I have lost count of the number of times I have been asked if people can use this as holidays

How about a 'Thank you for this months employment' slip attached to payslips.
Pr-printed with staff details, so any you don't receive back you can put them at the top of the list for getting rid.
My pay and job my not be the highest or best in the uk but I at least have them whilst others don't.

That's one day every fortnight eek

Yes, having *only* one day a fortnight off sick should be rewarded. You pleb.

I've lost count of how many times I've had a call in the morning with employees asking "can I take today as one of my statutory sick days?"

I like to match up my statutory sick days with my satutory bank holidays to maximise my time off.

I've not had a day off sick since I had an industrial injury in 04.

I've not started last years holiday yet and not finished the holiday from the year before.

I am quite tired and pissed off though

I'd like to think that one of your (100% faithful/hardworking) employees is currently on their way home slyly chuckling to themselves as a reward after having wound management up for the day...

surely the key thing here is to make sure that this feedback is highlighted (anonymously) and discussed at length during the presentations that you will have to give to all staff and 'what you have learned n that, like. You can then bang on about, sickness, slackers, days off, malingerers etc to your hearts content without singling anyone out but making sure that everyone is aware of what is expected. It'll keep HR happy as well.

This. Has to be a joke. Don't you (Flashman) do something insurance-y in the Square Mile? If real, I wouldn't have thought a clock-watching walking sense of entitlement like that would have made it far in the City.

Fire them from an EOS 7D? wink

I work in the public sector and I am shocked that someone would expect such a reward for what is terrible attendance! Unfortunately I had a few days off last year with the flu, but decided to use up some holiday to keep these days off my record. However I do know of others who are bordering on the 90% attendance mark ...

When I first started at my job I found a very neat spreadsheet someone had done detailing when they had taken genuine sick days and had been faking.

Needless to say they were soon made aware that I knew about it and their attendance is now much better.

Eta. I also found copies of all their old rotas on the system along with notes stating when she had worked half an hour extra on one day and then taken extra breaks to make up for it. Moron.

Although I am the only one to quote this/me.
Still think this is the way to go as it could also contain any grips staff have - productively.

How about just being glad they have a job, isn't that award enough just now - recently gone from Private Sector back into Public and my temper is getting frayed.
