C180k

Evening folks.
I'm looking for some buying tips for a c180k. I've never had a Mercedes before but i am tempted by by a 2005 avantguarde model with 90k on the clock.
Has anyone got ownership experience of these? What are the things to look out for, common problems etc. Or shold i just avoid.
I need a comfortable saloon which will be good for long distance motorway journeys.
your thoughts please.

Excellent cars with a bulletproof engine. Had a new one in 2008, and Mrs WR bought a new C180 coupe a few years ago.

No real faults, just check the obvious things such as suspension,tyres,steering as 90,000 miles is quite a high mileage, although these should be good for at least 200,000 miles.

I had one from new on an 06 plate and did 35,000 trouble free miles over 2 1/2 years, I only got rid of it as the saloon doesn't have folding rear seats as standard and the boot is a bit awkward for decent load carrying, but as a motorway cruiser it's excellent.

We have a 2004 C180K Avantgarde with 100,000 miles and it still drives very smoothly and the engine is still amazing. The car drives a lot better than our 55 plate Jag X type with 80,000 miles.
One thing to bear in mind is that the C class has an awkward hand operated parking brake which can be difficult on inclines so it it best to try this out before committing to one.
It is also very fuel efficient for an old car with high mileage.

Edited to add that we are actually looking for another one with lower mileage to replace the Jag.

I've never driven the manual version to comment, however 95% of used models for sale will have an autobox with no issues operating the hand operated parking brake so if it's an issue just avoid the manuals.
