I'm currently refurbing the house and have a couple of rooms plastered ready for paint. Bit of a steady Eddie - I want a subtle, sophisticated colour for the walls, close to white but enough off to contrast the woodwork and ceiling.

Anyone made any good finds on the slightly off white colour front?

You retain your sense of humour Colin ;-)

I'm looking for such a colour too. Contemporary, clean and subtle. Minosa by Crown looks good in my hunt so far

Try looking at clay paints which isn't cheap but fantastically Matt and a good range of subtle colours including one called Just White which is a cross between White and magnolia which gives a nice creamy finish. Earthborn Paints are one of the best for this.

I just bought some for my living room, called Cozy. Part of the Homebase Sanctuary range. Lighter than magnolia and a lot brighter

Crown Olde English Cream is a lovely shade and gives a nice warmth to a room. It's very subtle but obviously not a plain white. Also a available in eggshell finish for woodwork so great for doors and skirting.

I've just painted my place in Dulux 'Natural Calico', I've got a picture rail so it's directly against white wood and brilliant white wall paint; I'm pretty happy with how it looks, it's quite light but not too light and to my eyes it's got a nice contrast with the other colours.

Might be a bit boring for some though.

Gardinia. its like a posh magnolia, nice rich colour.
Complements wood nicely.

It is (sadly enough biggrin) our cream of choice too.

Agree, Farrow & Ball all the way. A fantastic selection of whites, all at your local Homebase.

Just had mine done in Dulux Ivory Lace. Daft name, nice colour. Not as yellow as magnolia. Not as brown as Minosa. Subtle but noticeable against white.

I've done a couple of painted kitchens in Natural Calico. Very pleasant colour.

Paint-wise, we've tried them all, but now refuse to work with anything other than Dulux.

We've just done our spare room, which has a tiny high window only, in Dulux "Timeless" Matt. It's the lightest of their Creams range. It's nice and light, but not as harsh as Pure Brilliant White.

We might even stop calling the room "The Cave" now...

B&Q Antique White is quite nice, close to white but different enough to be a contrast.
