Right chaps,

I'm about to embark on the mission of making me heater actually work (at least well enough to clear the screen without needing to keep the window open on wet days).

Before I start ripping bits of trim off, has anyone got any pics of the pipework behind the dashboard, or of the heater fan housing in the passenger footwell. To be honest, anything that may give me some clues as to the pipe routing would be really useful.

There are only two water pipes for the heater. They enter the passenger footwell from the engine compartment at the top right side and go across the top of the footwell and connect to the heater matrix in the passenger side wing a the left side of the footwell.

The blower and matrix are behind the left side panel in the footwell. You need to remove the scuttle panel and the carpet, there are several self tappers some covered by tape. Once they are all out you can remove the fibreglass panel then try to get the airbox, blower, matrix assembly out. It does come, but it is a bit of a puzzle to get it at exactly the right angle.

I cleared 3 carrier bags of dried leaves out of the inner wing on mine which improved the heating no end!

Interesting topic, My heater button also does not work,it was fine until the trimmers did my carpet but they say they didnt touch anything. What do we reckon is the cause?

The heater fan button has a long ribbon cable that connects to a control box in the passenger footwell near the main ECU. It would almost certainly have been moved if the footwell carpets have been disturbed.

Tanguero you are a wealth of knowledge! so what is the fix. I just spoke to the trimmers who just grumbled and grumbled but the reality is they are responsible for the fix..?

If i can let them know how we fix it would be great!

Depends what the problem is... I would check all the connections to the heater control box, including the ribbon cable. If all is connected then check the switch end of the ribbon cable. If everything is connected then you are looking at checking the function of the control box with a meter or finding a replacement to try, though to be honest it is unlikely to just fail. Its far more likely to be that something got unplugged or disturbed.

There are several equivalent products by the likes of Turtle Wax and even Halfrauds own brand that work just as well, but only use RainX if you want to help "Brake"

Its behind the removable panel at the front of the passenger footwell, remove the mats and base carpet and pull the panel forward. The box will be on a velcro strip around the ecu somewhere.
