I have a 2001 tusacan and when you open the door the windon doesnt drop. I tried changing the encoders over and still have same problem. Anyone have any ideas what the problem may be? Anyone know which exact fuse may be at faul so i can try replacing? Any help, would be so grateful. Many thanks.

The windows are controlled by an ecu, it is under the centre console by the ash try, I think there is one per door, you can try swapping them over, they are labelled Door ECU's

Hope that helps.

Like mentioned before if it's not the ECU then it will be the encoder which means you need to strip the door down (cover off) and there you'll find the encoder, and you can buy them on ebay!

Go to mytuscan.co.uk and download the fuse diagram, I always have one in the car just incase! Good luck! smile

You know that the ECU is different to the encoder?

ECU = black box normally in the center tunnel infront of the ash cup.
Encoder = a small unit screwed to the window mechanism.

it could be possible that youre window motor has gone to the endless hunting grounds.
did you try a + and - on the motor when you had youre card off.
when the encoder and the ecu from left (where it works) doesnt make a difference you'll have a power problem.
a fuse or the motor itself
don't think the encoder in the doorcatch is the problem. if so it should warn you that the door is still open

Something else to look at, with the door card off there are 3 x connectors, one for the door switch one for the encoder and one for the motor. On ours they were badly corroded, so i used contact cleaner on them and plugged them in and out a few times. Once this was done i needed to shut the door and arm the alarm, then everything worked correctly.

WINDOW FIXED, SO HAPPY, THANKS EVERYONE FOR THE ADVICE, THIS SITE IS AMAZING, SAVED ME TWO HOURS OF LABOUT CHARGES FROM THE DEALERS AT LEAST.

I cleaned all the connectors in the door, then took out and replaced all 4 fuses related to the door. Then when i closed the door the window moved up slightly (when it stopped working it was about 1cm open) set the alarm waited a minute, tryed door, again windon didnt drop. So i cleaned the connectors again and took out and replaced the 4 fuses again, set the alarm, waited a minute, this time window dropped and all is ok. while door card was off, decided to clean the connector for the wing mirrors too. Thanks again everyone.
