http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-TX-P50G20B-50-in...

We currently have a 4 year old Panasonic Viera 50" plasma (although not full 1080 HD). The problem is that it has only 2 HDMI sockets, and we have just upgraded to SKY HD. We have a HTPC and PS3 that are HDMI also - and because the PC plays through the HDMI, full HD would look better for BR and DVD (I think..)

My wife's dad has helped us with renovating our new house, and he said he was looking for a large TV, so I figured that perhaps he could have ours and we could then upgrade to a newer full HD TV.

Are there any better TV's out there than the one I gave the link to?

Cheers smile

no...thats the one get that....and then get an AV receiver with more HDMI inputs and switching...then the TV only really needs one HDMI input.... then you can expand to nice speakers too...

I dislike the bezels/surround on Panasonic's barring the new 30 series, however in terms of performance, the TV's are very good. In fact if you look here http://www.dixons.co.uk/gbuk/panasonic-viera-tx-p5... its on offer for £649.

At that price, nothing can touch it.

Thanks for that! Quite a lot cheaper. I shall add that to faves and show the wife later - see what she thinks.
Can't quite believe the prices of these - our 4 year old viera was twice the price, and we are still trying to get rid of our huge 32" Sony Trinitron CRT, which cost over £1000 just over 4 years ago!

Been looking at the same TV today too and am very tempted. However I had a look around on AVForums and it seems a lot of people are having problems with them (referred to as the 50hz bug). So this has started me looking at the LG 50PK590 which you can get from Richer Sounds for much the same money with a 5 year warranty. Seems there's not a lot between the two - although I've not yet seen either in the 'flesh'.

I guess that forums don't neccessarily represent the entire buying population, as most people only post reviews to moan - especially when it comes to TV's - but it seems that the more I research these things, the more reasons I find not to buy them...wish it was easier

All I would say is that the LG is a £700 TV whilst the Panasonic is a £1,200 TV which can now be had for £649.thumbup

Yeah I agree, and it does seem like a cracking deal, and on paper it is much better TV but if it does have problems with buzzing, posterizing, floating blacks and all that stuff reported then I know that as soon as I see it I'm gonna be pissed off with having bought it. Of course there are problems reported with the LG too, but they aren't the kind that would annoy me quite so much.

Dunno what to do, so will go see them tomorrow. Unfortunately it seems that JL don't do that model Panasonic anymore (at least I can't find it on their website), and I don't really like buying from Dixons, especially as it'll only come with a 1 year warranty.

Bloody TVs....

I'ver got the 590 and it's been fine... in fact the only fault I can pick with it is that it seems to interfere with our IR light switches - occasionally (normally as the TV flicks to an ad break the lights switch on or off).

I did buy the 590 in the end and am really pleased with it...PS3/Blu-rays look awesome and now have had to get Sky HD as 50" really shows up the bad quality of SD....kind of expected that anyway.

Well, we got it and love it! Picture is better than the old viera, even on SKY HD. I love all the extra connections - network, USB, 4 x HDMI, optical - the back (and side) of our old plasma looks very sparse in comparison! It is also much thinner and lighter.

One thing I realised yesterday, when setting it up - we have no need for scart connections anymore.

I was disappointed to see they still insist on the old VGA connection for the PC, instead of DVI - but that doesn't matter as the HTPC connects via a HDMI lead.

Well done, an absolute steal at the moment!
