My front lawn probably has a ratio of 70 / 30 grass weeds. Ive tried throwing more grass seed at it and weed killer in past years with little luck.
Im thinking if I let the grass grow long for a few weeks will it dominate the weeds or am I always going to have the worst lawn on the street?

Regular mowing each week and regular applications of *lawn* weed killer (at the *right* dose) as per instructions - probabyl every 3-4 weeks. Just keep plodding away and it will improve.Im thinking if I let the grass grow long for a few weeks will it dominate the weeds or am I always going to have the worst lawn on the street?
If you've got a friend in the trade with a weed-killing license (don't get the watered down crap from B&Q), I highly recommend these following lawn weed-killers: supertox for your broad leafed weeds; and clovertox for...ur....clover. Both very effective - say goodbye to your weed problem.

Clovertox was good but contained ioxynil which was banned in about 1987 because they fed 46kg to a mouse and the mouse died...You picked two old May and Baker products - did you ever work for them? As for me, I worked on the Supertox replacement with dicamba.
