My Rear Pads keep dropping out
Discussion
At first I thought I had snapped the handbrake cable
(my Mum always said I didn't know my own strength!!!!)
but turned out the pad had split from the backing and dropped out.
Now within only a couple of hundred miles I have the same problem of no handbrake
but am told the whole pad and backing have dropped out 1 side this time.
Anyone come across this and is there an easy fix or has the 1st mechanic just done a cr@p job?
My MOT is booked for tomorrow so any help appreciated
Cheers

Have had 2 handbrake pads separate from the backing plate recently (2 separate occasions) - pads had been new when fitted about 6 months ago when rear brakes got a full overhaul.
Could not quite identify the brand name on the old pads (not Ferodo). Replacements now fitted are made by Ferodo.

Ive had this, the glue used to hold the material to the plat fails after time, the pads are from and E-Type, just best to get new pads and have them fitted for the MOT, they bold it, just a small pig to fit, better than an E-Type as you have to drop the back end down to service the brakes
got to love Jags thinking .....

When I bought my Wedge there was a pad including backing plate missing on one side.
It turned out that someone had had the handbrake part of the caliper off at some time and when they put it back on the managed to put the two long mounting bolts next to the main caliper body and not screwed into it!
Because it is quite hard to see in there it all looked ok at first, the bolts even felt like they were screwed in not just against the side of the main caliper!

Pic was borrowed from another Wedger Richard.
I remember one MOT on my 400 (after which I had the rear brakes totally overhauled) the tester/mechanic saying that the handbrake pads had started to disintegrate.
Something for everyone to keep an eye out for ?
Anyway, hopefully see you later in the year.

Are you going to Harewood Hillclimb next week?
The TVRs are racing there
