Mallory - Any Tips ?
Discussion
As a precursor to some DTEC racing we've entered a sports/saloons race at Mallory with the Rover engined Tuscan.
Not having ever been round there before (and having a tightwad policy of no testing
) it'l be a case of learn what you can in the qually laps.
I'd appreciate any hints and tips from you chaps - TVR racers.
Does Mallory have any good or particularly bad points from the seat of a Tivver ?
Any help greatfully recieved

Don't try this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4ZyRNYPpig&fea...
I always loved the TVRs at Mallory, it's one of my favourite tracks to watch racing

Both videos from 1991 and not to much has changed, the barriers are still close to the track and they're hard too so my tip would be to keep on the Tarmac.
What date are you there.

Most of the barriers have moved a fair bit from 91.. there is even a gravel trap on the inside of stebbie straight now.. which Keith found usefull last year..
The main tips are just smoothness, and accuracy.
The circuit is bacically start straight, big right, straight, right, left through the esses, nail it up the short rise to the big braking for the hairpin, on the gas hard again then probably a short shift to balance it for the off camber downhill left back on to the start straight.. and thats it really.
Gerrards is the big right hander, which you'll exit at over 100mph, and you'll be hitting 120+ into the esses.
before it was resurfaced, it was generally a bit double apex. Turn in, hug inside, let it run wide then back into the second apex, then feed the gas in from there to the exit.. If you start to run wide, just let it go and run gently along the grass for a s long as possible scrubbing off speed before pulling back on ciruit at the esses. many a car has ended its days with a spin there to the inside of the circuit, or the lake!!!
It a nice little ciruit, and due to resurfaceing and barrier work all the lumps and bumps ahve gone and many of the references people used for markers, so you'll not be as at such a big disadvantage to people who have been before..

Someone once said to me that if you find yourself accelerating through Gerards you didn't turn in fast enough in the first place. You can only ever lose time there, and if you do, you compromise your whole lap as the rest is much of a muchness. Not that I have ever done any good there but it does make sense. The whole circuit was either re-surfaced or just painted black in the New Year and I can't make up my mind whether it is more or less grippy than before. Certainly a lot less bumpy though. However I do think the Devils Elbow is slippier as I am having to short shift to 4th otherwise the rear breaks away every time as the turbo is at full chat there. Kevin Gore has some experience of that particular corner so if he reads this he may add a list of don'ts and don'ts.
Have fun.

Gerrards also gets very slippery out wide towards the end of the bend as it finally appears to tighten up which I learnt to my cost last time out - probably marbles, my over exhuberence & lack of skill all combined didn't help
You can easily end up on the grass then spinning every which way including back across the track into the gravel trap infield. Always a good place to watch is Gerrards
