I used to get this annually. Think it was called 'Kenalog' or something similar.
It's true, I found it wonderful. Cleared up my hayfever a treat and also alleviated the symptoms of my mild excema and asthma too. Was free on NHS as well!
Said 'used' to as havn't been allowed it at my local GP for the past 2 years due to potential side effects of long term use. Pah

Go and see your GP, there are a bunch of different histamines these days (if, like me, you used to take Clarityn and found them ineffective, they are very weak) try a few and settle on a good combination.
I use Nasonex spray along with Cetirizine dihydrochloride and it keeps me clear all summer, and I am allergic to just about all types of pollen (tree/grass etc)

Pretty much every drug out there comes with a long list of side effects and warning if you look long enough. I have tried numerous anti-histamines including Ceririzine and steriod sprays (inc Nasonex)for a period of time plus making sure i was inhaling correctly just in case. Nothing seems to work for me other than Kenalog which I have had for the last three years.http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/100001412.htm...

Thanks for the reply so far guys, I have a consultation booked with my gp on wednesday next week, I'll mention these drugs above and see if there available to me.http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/100001412.htm...

I will admit to only trying clarityn and other over the counter drugs.
Maybe I should have gone to the doctors sooner for some stronger stuff.

I have been asking my GP for this injection for the last 10 years and they have refused every year. I have tried every single antihistamine (sp?) out there and none of them work for me. I am going back to the doctors next week to once again enquire about having the injection. Hayfever ruins my summer every year but unfortunately the docs aren't really bothered I have sufferd since I was a kid and have tried all the nose sprays, tablets ect ect and they dont work!

Did the doctor give any reasons for not giving you the jab?
I'm not on any other medication and in good shape.
OP, also ask your doctor about Fexofenadine Hydrochloride (branded as Telfast in the UK). I've been taking this for about 8 years after trying ALOT of other combinations of hayfever meds. It's expensive for the NHS, so your doctor might be reluctant to prescribe it.
It's oh so worth it though.

This was exactly what I was going to post. Telfast is the only thing I have found that comes close to the injection. It's oh so worth it though.

I used to have an annual Kenalog injection many years ago. It always worked very well. However, over the years I found there was an increasing reluctance by GPs to prescribe it. Many of the side effects are noted when it is used in large doses on a regular basis, rather than the one shot a year used to treat hayfever. However, it does appear to have fallen from favour.
A few years back my then GP suggested I use a steroid nasal spray (Beconase or similar) and antihistamine eye drops rather than have an injection of Kenalog. He sent me away to try them with a promise that he would give me the Kenalog if these didn't work. I never had to go back.
