PH - the road safety people

The guy who ran that site tragically died a while ago. I think his wife was carrying on, but I've not heard much from them recently.
The problem you have trying to portray PH as a road safety device, is that it's populated by a lot of people who are not road safe. This might be an inconvenient truth, but it's truth all the same. Politically PH could never align itself with a 'safety' moniker because there would always be people popping up on the forum to remove that credibility.
It would be far better to go with the natural flow of things and describe PH as the 'biggest online motoring community in the UK', at which point you're presenting PH as the voice of the everyday motorist, rather than some holier-than-thou, prescribing, 'charity' such as BRAKE. That the community does not focus on one agenda or another, simply going with the theme of motoring, allows it to have credibility on just about any road related subject without having its partiality questioned. Think Mumsnet, but with cars.
PH would then need an 'Edmund King' figure, who has the contacts within the general press to become the person they come to when they want a motoring soundbite or panel guest on radio shows etc.
The difficulty with this situation as a concept, is that Haymarket are going to want to keep a very close eye on what's going on, and might want to avoid PH putting itself in the public eye in such a way. This is of course offset by potential revenue increases from extra traffic etc, but also opens PH up to being at odds in potential legal situations and the whole thing possibly going up in smoke.
Perhaps it's best to keep it as it is?

From what I've seen, if people do pop up like that they're soon taken to taskOverall PH is interested in the safety of its members and the public at large and probably has a better way of achieving it than the aformentioned

The people I'm talking about aren't the ones who shout about it- they're the ones who think they're driving safely and within limits, when they're not. PH is populated by a large proportion of people who may intend to drive 'safely', but often aren't doing so.
There's absolutely no point in trying to say PH people are the 'road safety people' when, I would hazard an educated guess, they're actually way above the average in terms of RTAs etc. It's not just about the visible posters on the forums who you consider decent people, you have to consider the site as a whole- the same as any people outside of PH would do.

I know and that's why you add to my point 
It's much more useful to have a fuller view of safety being discussed than the narrow angle presented otherwise

There's an Advanced Driving forum, which would be the obvious place to look for PH-friendly safety advice.It's pretty quiet over there though - PH'ers certainly like cars, but not many care enough about their driving to do something about it.
I've often thought that the slogan 'Speed Matters' is a bit too 'provocative' (if that's the right way to put?).
I appreciate that it could be read two ways but in the wrong hands the message could be mean that the website is branded as 'promoting illegal speeding', which of course is not the message we want to portray.
Maybe a different 'message' should be considered to suggest that 'Appropriate Speed Matters'
