New driver insurance - best car?

Just after a bit of advice. My 17 year old brother is looking at car insurance, but the quotes that are coming up are ridiculous, (4 grand for a £600 seciento with pass pluss for example!).

Is anyone aware of any cars that are less to insure than others, especially for new drivers?

A guy I went to school with had a 1982 Land Rover Defender 110, I think he paid under £1,000 with NFU.

He might be able to get a quote of £2.5k for something like a 1 litre Nissan Micra, but it isn't going to get any cheaper than that now. Insurance when you are 17 is bloody expensive.

By the way, add parents as second drivers, it brings the premium down loads, but DO NOT front the policy.

Cheers for the posts. I guessed it won't come down that much. Seems that first car insurance has really gone through the roof!
