mark adams ecu

I have owned a chim 430 for 10 years, it suffers from poor running at low engine speed, feals too rich. Have tried most obvious things, ecu reader shows no faults.
May be a Mark Adams chip will help.
Anyboby know costs and procedure, do I need rolling road or just fit new ecu?

There should be plenty about this subject on these forums if you do a search. He even used to post on here IIRC.

Its been 10 years or so since I used his services so things may have changed but I think he used to offer a replacement chip with generally improved settings by post, or you could arrange a rolling road session where he would personally set up your car.

I took the rolling road route and was generally v. happy with the outcome. The car (a Chimaera 400HC) ran better afterwards. Its important though, not to expect miracles. He's not going to unleash another 50 bhp unless your car was running extremely bad in thr first place!

I would also replace a few standard culprits of bad running before you do anything else: lambda sensors and stepper motor and leads spring to mind.

I am returning to these parts after being TVR less for 7 years because I'm going to buy another Chimaera in the very near future.

There is the fit and forget route with a little fiddling from your TVR garage,ie cost of chip plus a bit of labour or you can get MA to fit it, RR it and tune it which obviously costs more,RR time plus MA time but he will set it up a peach.you will also find out if you have something like a worn cam when he is working on it it.Ring him and have a chat,not the easiest guy to get hold of but very free with his time when you do !

A lot of poor low speed running is due to the way the ECU controls the mixture if you have catalysts fitted, as it runs a bit leaner than suits the engine. If however its running rich there is a problem that needs to be investaged and fixed first. You only rechip an engine that is as near perfect as can be to start with, and dont use a rechip to try and mask a fault thats present.

Having spent the day with Mark yesterday, I can whole heartedly recommend his services.
My car has always been a strong performer but having had Mark set it up on the rollers has transformed the way it drives. I was amazed at how thoroughly he goes through every last influencing factor in the running of the engine.

As Blitz said, simply re chipping may mask your problem but not eradicate it. I would suggest giving Mark a call and have a full diagnostic session with him. He is a perfectionist and a pleasure to spend a day with.

It's probably worth mentioning that the first thing Mark has to do is to get the car running right in the first place .. as it's not always the mapping that is at fault. He then improves the mapping.
