Hi All

We have an oil fired Trianco Contractor Oil fired combi Boiler ( piece of st )
We had a replcement PRV relief valve relief fitted Monday afternoon. Our pressure kept dropping - no leak detected in system - plumber said this needed replacing.
Every morning since this has been replaced - between 5am and 6am - the burner lockout light has come on. Burner not firing up so we have no hot water. The radiators have been blead, incase of air block, and we have plenty of oil in the tank. Company have been called - a guy is coming out this afternoon - when the problem was explained over the phone - they denied that it could have had anything to do with them. I appreciate the burner is a different part of the boiler and they were not working on that, but its funny how it played up the morning after.

Anyway - the boiler is wired up to a timer - heating isn't set to come on at all - water is always on. Why would the lockout light come on every morning? Its always around the same time - haven't pinned it down to and exact time - but close enough.

I'm heading out to work in a minute but will be keeping this open for my girlfriend to read - so any thoughts/questions/advice can be seen/answered by her.

Thanks for any replies

Cheers.

My oil boiler was going into lockout mode every time it fired up. This was because after ignition the boiler failed to sense a 'stable flame' and so shut the oil feed off as a safety feature. I located the photocell and removed it to find that it was covered with soot so I wiped this off and put the photocell back in and it has been fine ever since. It is possible that the guys working on your system would have needed to test their work by firing up the boiler a few times and maybe this just added enough extra soot that the photocell became obscured, rather than anything they have directly touched?

Thanks for the reply - the guy is in working on it now - so we'll see what he says. Last year after a service it went into lockout - the photocell was dirty and hadnt been cleaned on the service. Initially this guy has said he thinks its air in the oil supply pipe - but why would this happen at the same time every morning nearly if there was air in the oil supply pipe

We shall find out shortly I suppose!

Cheers

Make sure any filters in the oil supply line are clean. They often get overlooked and there can be loads of little bits of crap in your oil tank.

Over time the filter blocks up, particularly the one at the tank tap. When you crack open the supply pipe to the boiler you want a good strong flow.
