Morning all,

Has anyone got any recommendations atall? I live in Aylesbury and ideally am looking for somewhere that we can get to on a decent length walk - up to about 10 miles away I guess - enjoy some sunshine, good food and beer/cider, then taxi home.

Definitely up for getting a taxi further afield though if anyone has any suggestions.

Cheers

The Pink and Lily at Parslow's Hillock near Princes Risborough is worth a look and has excellent walking country round about. The Whip Inn nearby at Lacey Green is a decent al pub with a reasonable menu. Neither is a gastropub, more like pubs that do reasonably decent food.

I know it is a lot further afield, but The Bull and Butcher in Turville is a good pub with some lovely surrounding countryside. Maybe one to add to your list for another time.

The Pheasant at the top of Brill hill is pretty nice, good local beer. Spectacular views too.

My two favourites (other than the already mentioned Bull at Turville) are the Three Horseshoes in Radnage, and the Sir Charles Napier near Chinnor. To be fair though, they're a tad more restauranty than pub, if it's a 'proper' pub then the Bull...

Thanks very much for all the ideas - some great looking places there that I'd never heard of.

It's between The Old Swan, The Three Horseshoes and Sir Charles Napier I think. All look great and are local.

Cheers

The Sir Charles Napier looks interesting, I've lived just up the road from it for 5 years and didn't know it was there! Was always a bit disappointed by the standard of pubs in the village so will have to check it out.

It's more restaurant than pub again but The Angel in Long Crendon is very good. Also, more up my way the Betsey Wynne in Swanbourne and the Old Thatch at Adstock are both worth a visit too.

The food is fantastic, and not unreasonably priced. Well recommended.

[As a general point, if you drive from M40 westbound don't follow satnav at J6, Stokenchurch unless you really like narrow country lanes .. go to J7, Princes Risborough then go up the hill!]

As a local resident I wholly agree with this one. Spectacular all round.
Sit on the deck in front of our famous windmill watching the sun set with a pint of local ale.
YUM.....

google 'Brill Village' for more info

Well we went to the Old Swan in Swan Bottom in the end - walked from Aylesbury down the canal towards Marsworth, turned off through Aston Clinton then rejoined the Wendover Canal and walked from there to Swan Bottom - lovely walk, great weather, great pub, excellent beer and food, friendly staff - excellent recommendation all round so thankyou!

Too late I know , but maybe one for the future would be The Firecrest in Wendover.

Glad you enjoyed it.

Pixel pusher, I'm sorry but the firecrest is a dreadfull soulless chain “pub” and as such shuould be avoided at all cost.

Haven't been for a while, you're more than likely right. The Old Swan sounds like a good shout then.

A few years ago, when the landlord at the Three Crowns was a chap called Pete who now lives in Bledlow and is no longer a publican, the Three Crowns was superb. It was known by my family as the Dog and Duck because of the friendly dog that lived there and the beautiful sliced roast duck that Pete served. He had a good range of real ales and good food cooked in house. Sadly he went bust because hardly anyone knew about the place. I must admit I haven't been there since he left.

The George in Risborough town centre was also good for eating when Christoff (sp?) was the landlord - sadly he too has gone.

Avoid the Lions of Bledlow - beautiful pub and exquisite surroundings, but very indifferent staff and service.
